Clear Fork River

Clear Fork Brown TroutLeft, Nathan holds a nice Clear Fork brown trout caught summer 2006.

The Clear Fork River is stocked annually with brown trout by ODNR. The trout do hold-over and fishing in the lower section of the river can be excellent. Heavy rain earlier in January blew out the stream but the waters have receeded and although I’ve yet to get up there the guage tells me it should be fishable.

Steelhead Flies

Jelly Stone I’ve been working on putting together the ultimate fly box for Lake Erie Steelhead. The fly to the right is a “Jelly Stone,” originated and tied by Mike Laskowski, the owner of Oil Creek Outfitters in north-western PA.

It’s a great looking fly that’s proven itself effective on the PA tribs. I look forward to fishing it in Ohio.

Late January Water Levels

Snow BoatsThe recent rains killed any local winter trout fishing for a while and put the Erie tribs on hold late last week. The tribs seem to be back in good shape but the Clear Fork is still too high to fish. Pity. I aways enjoy fishing the park in the snow.
