Left – Joe Buzolith of Columbus, Ohio holds a large rainbow trout caught, landed and realeased. A good fish by any standards (this isn’t a steelhead) the story here is that Joe was fishing with his new Sage 00 weight rod.

Patrick Robinson with Steelhead

Left – Steelhead guide Partick Robinson holds a fresh fish caught on an Erie tributary. Conditions this season so far have been poor with late season ice, snow and heavy rains. Rain this week has again blown-out most of the streams leaving anglers scratching their heads and wondering if we are ever going to get any decent steelhead fishing this year.

Kayaks on Crab Bank, Charleston, South Carolina

Kayaks parked on Crab Bank in the Charleston Harbor. We are wrapping up a fantastic week exploring the waters around Charleston with Coastal Expeditions.

We had the opportunity to greatly improve our kayaking techniques with help from our guides. Highlights include watching an eight foot aligator launch itself off a high bank into the stream and paddling just feet away from porpoising dolphins.

We are already planning our next trip to continue our explorations.

Kayak Tour in South Carolina’s ACE Basin
We are spending the week kayaking the waters around Charleston, South Carolina. Pictured above, touring the ACE Basin we wind our way through narrow man-made channels that were dug to irrigate the rice fields that dominated the area in the 1800’s. ACE is an acronym for the three rivers that feed the area, the Ashepoo, the Combahee and the Edisto.

“…the ACE Basin, one of the largest, most pristine and most viable estuarine ecosystems in North America…Seemingly frozen in time, these virtually unspoiled wetlands are the focus of a preservation effort of such magnitude that countries around the globe are watching to see how well the venture will endure against urban pressure.” From South Carolina’s Wetland Wilderness by Tom Blagden, Jr.
