Colorado Fishing

Mt. Princeton from Buena Vista, Colorado Pictured is Colorado’s Mt. Princeton. Part of the Collegiate Peaks, Mt. Princeton is one of Colorado’s “fourteeners” at 14,197 feet high. It also happens to be the view from my bedroom here in Buena Vista at just above 8,000 feet elevation. The photograph was taken late May 2006. This morning as I look at “Grandma’s mountain” as we call it, there is much more snow than last year not only on the peak but also down far below the tree line.

I arrived on Thursday and the weather has been much more like late winter than spring. The highs today will be in the 40’s at best and there is a chance of snow the next few days. I did get down to the river Friday and I’ll be guiding again today (as long as the clients don’t cancel like the did yesterday.) The famous “Mother’s Day caddis” hatch is in full swing and is slowly moving up the river. Recent rains brought up the water level considerably which did slow the fishing for a couple of days but things have leveled out for the moment. Check back for more updates on Caddis 2007.
